DIY Belle and Boo boys room art

Belle and Boo for boys

I’ve been smitten with Belle and Boo products ever since I came across them about 5 years ago.  The collection of adorable illustrations are inspired by French children playing, and I just love them.

I’d always dreamt of having a picture perfect nursery, but back when JJ was first born we lived in a cramped little flat.  This meant that instead of sleeping in a beautifully decorated nursery, JJ ended up having to share a room with a huge elliptical trainer, a desk, and several book shelves.  I did my best to decorate it, and make it look and feel as nice as I could, but as JJ grew it just got even more cramped.

So when we moved into our house a year and a half ago, I was determined to give JJ the room I’d always wanted him to have. One he could call his very own, and one that I could decorate as I had always wanted.

It’s now a year later, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the way JJ’s room turned out.  I’m still finding little bits and pieces to add to it, and my most recent addition is a piece of wall art I made myself using some adorable post cards from Belle and Boo featuring a little boy named Ellis who reminds me so much of JJ.

I found it too hard to choose which postcards I wanted to use for this project so I ordered a few extras.  I ended up choosing the ones that remind me most of JJ.  The little dinosaur costume was almost identical one of his previous Halloween costumes, he’s got a rocking horse in his room which he frequently plays ‘cowboys’ on, and he’s got a pirate costume that dresses up in quite often.

I purchased the frame (including inner matt) from Sainsbry’s for about £5, and then just added in my postcards which were £1 each.  I’m so pleased with the way my DIY Belle and Boo boys room art turned out.  For only £8 I’ve made a gorgeous framed piece that looks amazing in JJ’s room, and reminds me so much of him. Whenever JJ looks at it, he always points and says it’s a ‘little JJ’.

I hope Belle and Boo come out with more illustrations for little boys soon!

What JJ Wore – Trendy Yellow Trousers

I’ve got a bit of an issue with children’s clothing shops.  The selection of boys clothing is virtually non-existent compared to the girls!  And of the selection that is available, I find the majority of it is well, childish!  I know, I know, they’re children you say, but why does being a child – especially a little boy mean that you have to compromise on style?  Can’t boys dress well too?

I’ve never been a fan of character t-shirts, cutesy designs, and cheesy sayings like ‘Mummy’s little angel’.  I’ve always called JJ my ‘little man’, and from the day he was born I’ve dressed him that way.

No creatures

We prefer simpler styles with minimal designs on them.  Our friends and family have come to realise that JJ’s got a style all of his own, and it’s unlikely that they’ll ever see him in a t-shirt with a happy little monster on it, so there’s no point in gifting him one.

I do struggle to find shops that regularly stock stylish clothing for boys, but I’ve managed to find a few that I can count on.  I’ve decided to create a regular series of posts where I’ll share the outfits that JJ wears, and I hope you guys will share the outfits your children wear as well.

In the coming weeks I’ll be starting a link up for other parents to share their children’s favourite outfits from the week.

The first outfit I’m sharing pairs JJ’s trendy yellow trousers with a navy knit sweater.

Yellow trousers (once white trousers) are from Vertbaudet, Navy sweater is from the GAP, Hat & Shoes are Polo Ralph Lauren.

JJ’s has worn these yellow trousers for nearly a year, and they’re still one of my favourite pairs of trousers he owns.  Last year I needed to buy JJ a pair of yellow trousers for a particular costume.  After scouring the shops and every website I could think of with no luck at all, I ended up buying a white pair and dying them yellow myself.  I never could have imagined how much use JJ would get out of these yellow trousers.  And a year later, it seems like the yellow trend is really catching on.

I’ve spotted loads of yellow trousers in the shops this season.  Below are some of my favourites.

10 Chinese New Year Crafts for Kids

I wanted to follow up our exciting trip to the Wing Yip supermarket earlier this week a list of 10 Chinese New Year crafts for kids to help children gain an understanding of different cultures.  We’ve already made a few of these, and they’ve been great fun.  JJ has particularly liked the paper chain dragon, and the toilet role fire crackers.  I think we’ll work on the goat mask and colouring sheets today.

Here are some great craft ideas that are sure to get the kids excited about Chinese New Year, which takes place this year on 19 February.  Depending on where in the world you are, this year’s animal is referred to the  year of the Ram, Goat, or Sheep.

Celebrate Chinese New Year With Toddlers

Celebrating Chinese New Year With Toddlers

JJ’s pre-school class has been learning about Chinese New Year this week. Last week he came home from school with a note asking parents to send along a Chinese snack the following week for all of the kids to try. How fun I thought, that’s a great way to celebrate Chinese New Year with toddlers.  Then I got to the end of the note… all snacks must be nut, egg and gluten free. Damn, damn, damn. Seriously? How on earth are parents supposed to supply a total of 13 nut, egg & gluten free ready to eat Chinese snacks?
